It came a few days early here. This shot captures the vibe.

Ansel Adams had us all beat on making photographs of objects appear better than they do in real life. A beautiful piece with multimedia gallery in today’s NYT on him. Especially love the image of him shooting from the roof his station wagon.

Not much more to say than have a look. Beautiful. Kudos to The Daily Slurp for the find. Nice work.

This from the NYT’s Sunday Magazine: “Another study posits that if every American spent 30 minutes a day walking or cycling instead of driving, we would collectively cut carbon emissions by 64 million tons and shed more than three billion pounds of excess flab. All of this sounds great in theory, but most people find that their good intentions falter when faced with the extra time it takes to walk. Yet Alan Durning, an environmental researcher whose blog about living without a car inspired Walk Score, argues that walking may be the ultimate timesaver. He cites a British study that suggests that for every minute you walk, you live about three minutes longer. ‘You’re not using time,’ Durning argues; ‘you’re generating time.’ “

Garmin makes some pretty nice equipment, including the 605 and 705. I will be testing out the 305 this week, hopefully on South Grade Road and East Grade Road of Palomar Mountain. Elevation tracking, heart rate, cadence and more. The form factor is larger than the typical cycling computer, but the functionality is startling. Full review soon.

Amazingly, a section of the Great Wall of China in this photo is empty. One of the few I’ve seen. Bandaling never looked this mild on my trips there. Of course, they weren’t in January when it can be mighty cold.

In honor of the Paris Roubaix professional bike race, I had to pop in this image from last year. Cobbles. Dust. Speed. Distance. It’s a classic.

Did a quick search for “San Diego” and “HDR” on flickr. What I hoped for came up. This shot from last month shows the Pacific Ocean from the La Jolla coastline. Positively lovely.

Once the unique name of a triathlon in San Francisco. This HDR image caught my eye.
